Folic acid enters the liver through the portal vein and is stored in the liver and distributed to other tissues and organs in the form of N5-methyltetrahydrofolate. The storage amount in the liver is about 1/3 to 1/2 of the total body. About 90% of the treated dose of folic acid is excreted in the urine, and 20% to 30% of the folic acid is present in the urine 2 hours after the injection of large doses.
